Where we were.
As the first city of Kansas, Leavenworth has a colorful and rich history. It served as a
springboard for settlement of the rest of the state, as well as a support base for the opening
of the West. As the city expanded, factories and businesses flourished and stately homes were
built to reflect the growing population and the wealth they enjoyed. Back then, Leavenworth
was the industrial center of not only Kansas, but also the western portion of the United States.
